Description:
Physocarpus opulifolius 'Panther' is a versatile, easy to grow, showy, North American native flowering shrub known as ninebark that tolerates a wide range of soil types and conditions. Lobed leaves emerge dark purple to almost black developing a reddish tone as they mature. Clusters of flat-topped pink flowers, that bloom on old wood, emerge in late spring followed by attractive reddish fruit in the fall. The growth habit is upright and narrow, 4-5 tall and 3-4 feet wide with exfoliating bark. Ideal as a contrasting landscape or back of the border shrub, as a vertical thriller in a container, and for cut flowers. Tolerant of dry and moist soils.
