Description:
Camellia japonica is a stunning specimen for milder gardens with glossy, dark-green, broadly elliptic, evergreen leaves accented with lovely, rose-like flowers in early spring. 'Spring's Promise' has lovely single flowers that are 2-3 inches wide. The petals can appear reddish pink to deep rosy pink depending on the light - they will generally be a bit more pink than our photo. It blooms in early to mid season. Hardy to zone 6b. A member of the Ice Angels series. Camellias appreciate rich, acidic, moist, well-draining soils. Use in the light shady garden as an accent or specimen plant, a hedge, or an espalier, or in containers and as cut flowers. Somewhat deer resistant. Plant in a protected location in zone 6.
