Description:
Citrus unshiu ‘Changsha’ may rival 'Owari' for cold hardiness in coastal BC. It should be able to survive -12 degrees Celsius without issue (once it reaches a mature size) and has even survived -15 degrees Celsius in some cases. Some sources say it is the most cold hardy of all sweet citrus fruits. It bears heavy crops of small, puffy fruit with wonderful sweetness and juiciness though it does have seeds. It has good cold hardiness and might be a candidate for outdoor cultivation in coastal BC. Provide overhead protection for the leaves and fruit in winter. All of our citrus are grafted onto C-35 citrange, trifoliate orange, or other semi-dwarfing rootstock which confer good hardiness and production while reducing overall tree size.
