Ornamental onions offer intriguing spherical or egg-shaped inflorescences comprised of hundreds of tiny flowers. Allium caeruleum (syn. A. azureum) has royal blue flowers and hails from central Asia, western Siberia and China. The leaves wither by the time the flowering begins so plant some low growing perennials just in front of or on top of the bulbs to mask the foliage.
