Pleione speciosa is one of the easiest and hardiest species to grow with exquisite magenta-pink flowers in spring.
Description:
Pleione speciosa is one of the easiest and hardiest species with winter dormant pseudobulbs producing exquisite pink and white orchid flowers with yellow and red blotched throats in April then long pleated leaves for the summer. They slowly multiply to form colonies. Grow in clay pots or outdoors in gritty, loamy, well-drained soil in bright shade with ample summer moisture. Best to keep dry in winter though colonies in coastal BC seem to perform well even exposed to winter rain. In colder zones, keep at or just above 0 degrees C. Formerly known as Pleione pleionoides ‘Blakeway Philips’.
