Description:
Dolichos lablab 'Ruby Moon' is a beautiful legume family vine sometimes sold as an annual but it happens to be perennial down to zone 7. It is a vigorous, striking plant with spikes of fragrant, magenta, purple, and lavender-blue, pea-like flowers for months followed by large, purple pods held on purple stems amongst purple-infused foliage. Hyacinth bean will be the focal point of the garden in late summer and fall. Various parts are edible but some are poisonous if not prepared properly so research carefully.
