Description:
Delosperma congestum 'Gold Nugget' is a high elevation alpine species from the mountains of South Africa. It is very hardy and sports shining, mid to deep yellow flowers in masses in spring. The foliage is extremely tight and low and may remain under one inch in height. Good drainage is important but some summer moisture is appreciated. Ice plants are long-blooming and carefree succulent mat-forming perennials similar to sedums that thrive in heat, drought and nearly any well-drained soil. Very hardy but should be protected from winter wet either with very well drained soil or in the rainshadow of a house or other structure. Great in containers.
