Fargesia nitida is a striking clump-forming bamboo with purple-green to purple-blue new stems, dark green leaves, and an upright habit. It is one of the hardiest of all bamboo. Use it for privacy and screening. This species is an important food source for the giant panda. All members of the genus Fargesia are clumpers and do not produce running rhizomes. Grow in a pot or the ground.
