Corydalis solida 'Firebird' is the best red cultivar producing sweetly fragrant flowers above finely dissected, fern-like foliage. This species makes a lovely spring ephemeral, preferring spring's moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in the woodland or shade garden, where later emerging plants such as Hosta can take its place as it goes dormant by June.
