Centaurea 'Pulchra Major') is a dramatic perennial with large, dissected, silver-green foliage resembling cardoons and artichokes (Cynara) with stems to 3 feet tall topped with rounded buds covered in hard, light brown, shiny bracts opening out the top with fuzzy, lavender-pink flowers resembling a thistle. Popular with bees.
