Gladiolus carneus 'is a South African native species growing to almost 2 feet tall with large flowers in shades from white through pink with dark pink markings in the throat. Taking little space to grow, hardy glads combine well with other plants and make excellent cut flowers. Bulbs require good drainage. Leave the foliage to nourish the bulb after cutting back the flower stalk and mulch in winter. Grow in a pot in cold regions and protect in winter.
